Pretty and popular, Miss Clare Westmore knows exactly what (or rather, who) she wants: the next Duke of Harrington. But when she twists her ankle on the eve of the Season’s most touted event, Clare is left standing in the wallflower line watching her best friend dance away with her duke.

Dr. Daniel Merial is tempted to deliver more than a diagnosis to London's most unlikely wallflower, but he doesn’t have time for distractions, even one so delectable. Besides, she's clearly got her sights on more promising prey. So why can’t he stop thinking about her?

All Clare wants to do is return to the dance floor. But as her former friends try to knock her permanently out of place, she realizes with horror she is falling for her doctor instead of her duke. When her ankle finally heals and she faces her old life again, will she throw herself back into the game?

Or will her time in the wallflower line have given her a glimpse of who she was really meant to be?

I am going to make this review short and sweet. Why? Diary of an Accidental Wallflower is a cute read and I am not sure there is much more I could say without adding endless nonsense.

This story starts off cute because Claire is quite taken with Mr. Alban, a future duke. One day when she is in the park she sees him out and about but god forbid Mr. Alban sees Claire in an old day dress. She lunges into some bushes to hide and hurts her ankle. That is how Dr. Daniel Merial begins taking care of Claire’s ankle. Thus begins the infatuation between a young handsome doctor and haughty socialite.

I liked this story even though it took me a while to read. If anyone knows me, they know I like a good romantic story. It is not a story about a wallflower it is a story of a young woman whose family is falling apart and thinks if she does everything by the “societal book” she will marry the duke and family’s problem will all just disappear. In real life it doesn’t work like that. Bored wives drink, husbands run off to gambling halls, little brothers get kicked out of boarding school, and little sisters like to dress as boys and buck convention. It takes the help of Dr. Merial accepting Claire’s family as they are and even taking her brother under his wing to make Claire realize that her family has to handle their own problems. It is time Claire went after love instead of doing the right thing.

I liked the meet cute between Claire and Daniel. I am spoiling anything because this is a romance novel, I liked the happily ever after at the end. It was the journey that I had a hard time getting into. Claire could be really hard headed. At one point I had to set the book down because I wanted to smack some sense into her.

In the end I liked this book. Did I love it? No. It was a cute entertaining story that let me escape for a few hours. That is all I really ask for in a good romance novel.
