What if you woke up to discover that your entire life had been a lie, what would you do? Everything you thought was reality was instead a made up video game. That is what is happens to Claudia Virtue, the heroine in The Aftermath. One day she wakes up to discover that everything she knew was all a lie and she has been a character in a reality RPG game all along. She can’t remember anything of her previous life and all she knows is that for the last three years, as long as she has been in The Aftermath,… Read more »

[Audiobook Review] Queen of the Tearling by Erika Johansen

I got this book as an e-ARC and started reading it, but quickly discovered it was kind of boring. Then I found out that Emma Watson was producing this book into a movie and was going to star in it, so I thought there must be something I am missing. I waited until the audiobook came out and decided to give Queen of the Tearling another try. I have to say it was a lot easier to get through as an audiobook because Katherine Kellgren is an amazing narrator. She really made the book come alive. Unfortunately, not enough to… Read more »

I am going to admit something, I like happy endings and the feeling I get when I have been swept up in the throes of a good romance. I am not ashamed to admit this. I really liked A Good Debutante’s Guide to Ruin because it was sweet, sexy, and swept me away. The book starts off with Rosalie Hughes when she is quite literally left on the doorstep of her estranged step brother’s house, the Duke of Branbury. Rosalie has nowhere else to go because her mother left her at finishing school way past the appropriate age. Declan, out… Read more »

This was the second time I tried to listen to this audiobook. The first time I will admit I got a little bored and gave up but the second time I was determined to listen to Throne of Glass all the way to end. You know what, I did it. I just finished listening to Throne of Glass and I can honestly say I don’t hate it. Do I want to shout it’s praises from the rooftops? No. Do I want to buy copies and force all friends to read it? No. While, I wouldn’t go out of my way… Read more »

Have you ever finished reading and/or listening to a book and thought what the heck did I just read? After finishing The Merciless, the one thought that kept running through my head was, WTF.  The most disturbing thought of all was I kind of liked it, and I want to read the read and/or listen to the next book.     The Merciless is a YA horror novel. In the description on audible it even says for, “Mature Audiences Only.” I knew parts of this book might get vicious and downright disturbing. I guess I just didn’t know how much… Read more »

I am huge of science fiction and romance, so when I find a book that can combine the two, I am of course in seventh heaven. Queen of Swords is a fun story full of intergalactic adventures and happy endings. I really really really liked Queen of Swords. This book was good, it makes me want to dance with glee.       Queen of Sword is a swash buckler sci fi romance for sci fans, who like things like Farscape and Star Wars. This book is about a daughter of a gunrunner down on her luck and the cocky prince… Read more »

[Review] A Darkness Strange and Lovely by Susan Dennard

First off let me say that I enjoyed this book so much better than the first book, Something Strange and Deadly. A Darkness Strange and Lovely takes place three months after the events in Something Strange and Deadly. I think it I liked A Darkness Strange and Lovely because it was full of: hot kisses, zombies and old fashioned Paris balls. Of course, a heroine that scoffs at traditions and hunts zombies in pants, no corset, and kicks butt with magic.     A Darkness Strange and Lovely takes place in late 1800s Paris this time. Eleanor goes there to… Read more »

[ARC Review] Kiss of Deception by Mary E. Pearson

To quote Sir Walter Scott, “Oh what a tangled web we weave, when first we practice to deceive.” I think that pretty much sums up Kiss of Deception. There are lies and mysteries that even, I, as the reader couldn’t figure out until they were unveiled. I liked Kiss of Deception a lot because it is a book about deception but also a book about courage. I loved the idea of a princess willing to risk everything for a chance at happiness and then willing to risk it again to fight for what she thinks is right.   Kiss of… Read more »
