What do you get when you mix Gargoyles and 1899 France?  A pretty decent gothic horror novel called The Beautiful and the Cursed.  Sorry, but this review will be short and sweet.  The Beautiful and the Cursed is about two sisters who live in 1899 and their mother has always dreamed of running a gallery in France.  With the permission of her husband, of course, their mother moves herself and her daughters to France for the summer.  Their brother has already gone to France ahead of them to scout out locations, secure the place, and hire servants.  He finds them… Read more »

[Review] Burn For Me by Cynthia Eden

Burn For Me is a fast paced high octane thrill ride. It is so corny and full of sexy happy fun times I couldn’t put it down. The best way I can describe Burn For Me is think of one of those silly SYFY channel movies, Ice Road Nightmare or Ghost Shark, meets late night Cinemax Channel.   Burn For Me is about a reporter who goes under cover at a government run testing facility. She discovers that not every subject is there voluntarily. Eve sets out to bring down the men running this facility. On her first day she… Read more »

So my dive into contemporary YA novels continues with Faking Normal by Courtney C. Stevens. Only this time it is with a book that has a much darker and at most times emotional story line. The story is about Alexi, a girl struggling with a dark secret. The book opens on a funeral, and the day Alexi decides to befriend Bodee at this mom’s funeral. Alexi and Bodee connect because they both have stories to share. Stories that will change not only their lives, but the lives of those around them. These stories and secrets are so life changing that… Read more »

[ARC Review] Wallflower Gone Wild by Maya Rodale

First, let me say that I absolutely loved the first book, The Wicked Wallflower. I am a sucker for shy wallflowers and the irresistible rakes that fall for them. I don’t know why I really really liked Wallflower Gone Wild, but I didn’t love it. This book is about Oliva, the least likely to misbehave. All her life Oliva has been told that is she stands up straighter, goes to all the right parties, makes polite conversation, and pretty much follows all the rules her overbearing mother sets, then the men will line up to marry such a well behaved… Read more »

[ARC Review] Better Off Friends by Elizabeth Eulberg

It’s official, after finishing Better Off Friends I am now an Elizabeth Eulberg fangirl. I want to shout from the rooftops and gush to anybody that comes near me how good this book is. The best way to describe Better Off Friends is that it is like a teen version of When Harry Met Sally. The book starts when the main characters are just kids in middle school. Macallan’s mom has recently passed away and Levi is the new kid in school and both of them are in need of someone to lean on. The book follows them through middle… Read more »

[ARC Review] Fire & Flood by Victoria Scott

For me, Fire & Flood is actually 3.5 stars and I rounded it up to 4 stars. I liked Fire & Flood, but I am not in love with this book. I don’t want to shout from the rooftops or start buying copies for all my friends yet. I think the book has potential. The best way I can describe how I feel about Fire & Flood is for me it was like a bland date with a guy you thought would knock your socks off. In the end, you like the guy, might even go on another date, but… Read more »

[ARC Review] Bright Before Sunrise by Tiffany Schmidt

I am starting to think that 2014 is going to be year of contemporary romance for me.  I seem to be gravitating to the aspect that they feel so real.  It is easy to escape into the lives of people who feel like they could be your friends or neighbors and think that “yeah I’ve been there too.”  When I saw the premise for the latest YA contemporary I read, I was hooked.  Bright Before Sunrise is about a popular rich girl and the new boy in school that moved from the poor side of town.  This book is also… Read more »

[Review+Giveaway] Cress by Marissa Meyer

I really, really like The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer.  It combines two of my favorite things which are fairy tale re-tellings and sci-fi action adventure.  The best way I can describe these books is that they are like Brothers Grimm meets Stars Wars.  With that being said, the latest installment in the series, the third book, is Cress which was just as good as the other two books in the series.  This review will be short and sweet because I don’t want to give any spoilers and I know everybody wants to the fun part: the giveaway. Cress picks… Read more »
