There are two things that I will always watch or read about: Victorian London and Jack the Ripper. When I saw the synopsis for Stalking the Jack Ripper I was like sign me up because I am definitely reading that book! I was sold on this book by the synopsis alone, I mean who doesn’t want to read about a young woman of society bucking tradition to become a female forensic scientist. Her first case study just happens to be the Jack the Ripper. I thought I couldn’t want to read this anymore than I already did then they released… Read more »

I admit the first time I read The Mediator series I was not officially a teen but I was close enough to it. I freaking loved this series. I love Suze and Jesse. I love the Suze and her wacky ghost adventures. I can remember when the sixth book came out, my friend and I went to the book store that day. Then I proceeded to re-read the entire series because I wanted it all fresh when I got to what I thought would be the last book in one weekend. When I saw there would basically be a reunion… Read more »

When I first started reading this book I had trouble getting into it. I put it to the side and hoped that the aid of audiobook narration could help bring the book to life for me. Unfortunately, even two amazing narrators couldn’t make this story a stellar experience. In the end, I didn’t really like Need but I didn’t totally hate it either. Need was just one those stories with an intriguing and fast paced plot to me interested but falls flat in the end. I am giving Need three stars because it wasn’t bad just a mediocre and shrug… Read more »

If you are like me, and you like Nancy Drew novels and colorful characters, then look no further because Ghost of a Potion fulfils those needs. Ghost of a Potion is third book in the Magic Potion series by Heather Blake. This series is a cozy mystery series that I have come to really like. The series is about a woman named Carly Bell Hartwell and she lives in a small town in Alabama. Carly is a witch who own a potion shop. She mixes up potion healing potions for people from all over. In this book we learn that… Read more »

Sometimes I think you have to be the mood for the book you are reading.  At first when I started reading this book I thought it was going to be another Sherlock Holmes retelling and I guess I wasn’t in the mood for it.  I was finally able to into the groove of this book and I ended up liking this well enough.  If Trouble is a Friend of Mine was a movie I would say I liked it but would recommend it as a rental. It was basically light fluff, good and decent but something you watch on Netflix when you just… Read more »

[Audiobook Review] It Takes a Witch by Heather Blake

I always think cozy mysteries are like Scooby or Nancy Drew mysteries for adults. It is a light who done it full of mystery and odd ball characters. It Takes a Witch is no exception to this rule. On top of Darcy being a Wishcrafter she now has to help her aunt’s boyfriend and clear his name of murder. Darcy sets out to do some sleuthing of her own when the police can come up with no more suspects.  While I thought the mystery itself was easy to solve as well some of the “shocking revelations” it was the setting… Read more »

I kind of actually liked this book and didn’t think it was as bad as some of the other reviews I had seen. It was a fast paced read that I was able to finish quickly. I think the story is more of3.5 read because while I liked the overall story I did feel like Maddie could have maybe done more to help with the investigation. I liked Maddie, she did cry a lot, but there was a lot going on in her life. The story felt a little like the other side of an adult mystery novel. Her uncle… Read more »

2014 ended with massive book ennui for me. With surgery, recovery, holidays and more, not only did I have little time for reading, I also have little incentive or desire to do so. This was only made worse with the fact that I just couldn’t find a book to spark my interest. So, when I finally hopped back on NetGalley, I noticed several titles close to archive, and this book was the nearest to archival, so it got picked up. I can say with certainty this book succeeded in breaking the book ennui, but it didn’t succeed with a whole… Read more »

I liked this book because it was an okay read. It was an easy read even though I didn’t really care who the mysterious vigilante was. It was just one those books that quick and I liked but I didn’t think it was the best thing since sliced bread. It was a bit predictable at times and I think I was expecting more of a thriller when I went into this book. The book is about Piper who finds a notebook full of scandals about her fellow students. Then one day she over hears some popular jock guys hassling… Read more »
